2010 Solid State Lighting Competition – Winner
Design Pro LED Broad Roof LED Path & Spread Light, by Kichler Lighting
The challenge to the designer was to create a lighting fixture where incandescent lamping was impossible, thereby making solid-state (LED) the only lighting option. This, in-turn reduced the overall girth of the unit, thereby resulting in an elegant sculpture of light.
The challenge to the engineering team was to develop a method of electronically powering the LED light source, without affecting the sleek design and also forgoing a unique set of circuitry for each new design. The result is a "puck" of electronics, located at ground level, from which most any aesthetic design can sprout.
The combination of design and science present the first 100% solid-state landscape lighting path light, with no influence from incandescent cousins.
