About
The purpose of Lighting for Tomorrow is to increase the market presence of energy-efficient lighting fixtures for the home. Although more energy-efficient decorative fixtures have been introduced to the market in the past several years, they are still not as widely available as standard fixtures, and there is an on-going need for more variety and choices in styles of high-efficiency fixtures. Lighting for Tomorrow aims to encourage fixture manufacturers to produce a range of new lighting fixtures that will complement home decor, provide high-quality light, and save consumers money by using less electricity. The winners and finalists of the 2005 competition ably demonstrate how innovative design can incorporate both high style and energy efficiency.
The first activity of Lighting for Tomorrow was a lighting fixture design competition carried out in 2003 and 2004. The competition invited lighting fixture manufacturers and professional lighting designers to submit fixture designs featuring energy-efficient light sources.

What do we mean by "energy-efficient"?
At a minimum, fixtures must meet the efficacy requirements of the ENERGY STAR® Fixture Specification, version 4.0. Fixtures may not use screw-in light bulbs, and must use energy-efficient light sources. See a sample list of efficient lamp types.
